Chaney v. Sun City Roseville Community Association (Placer County)

Synopsis: Don Chaney sued the SCRCA in small claims court to get access to accounting books and records.  The SCRCA challenged his choice of court, arguing that the small claims court had no jurisdiction, because Chaney wasn’t claiming that the SCRCA owed him any money.  The court determined that it had jurisdiction, ordered the HOA to release the records, fined it $500 plus court costs, and issued its decision.
